Why should I take my dog to The Educated Pet®?
The staff of The Educated Pet® are all highly-trained professionals. We are led by Carol Harris, one of the first trainers in San Diego to pass the Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT) test. Ms. Harris is also a recognized expert in canine behavior. She has taught classes and published many articles on canine behavior. All of us regularly attend advanced education courses to continue to bring you the most up-to-date, humane training techniques available. We provide one of the highest teacher-to-student ratios in all of southern California. We have small classes, and each class has two to four instructors. Our large, indoor facility which is centrally located in Kearny Mesa allows us to hold classes in the evenings and in less-than-perfect weather.
Do I need a private consult or a group class?
If your dog or cat is exhibiting aggression, extreme anxiety or any other severe behavior issues, then a behavior consult is the best choice for you. If you are unsure what is the most appropriate option for you, just Contact Us and we will help you decide.
You can sign up on line, by phone, or even at the first day of class. Just Contact Us to reserve a spot for you and your pooch or if you're not sure if fido meets the class prerequisites. We'll do the registration forms at the first class. And we can usually accommodate drop-ins, too! If this is your first class with us, don't forget your pet's vaccination records. Now how easy is that?
I have a young puppy. When do I start training him?
Training starts as soon as you bring your puppy home. The sooner you start training, the faster your puppy learns what behavior is acceptable. All puppies chew, housesoil, jump, bark and mouth their owners. These are all normal puppy behaviors, however most owners would like to significantly reduce the amount of time that these behaviors last. Our fun and instructive Puppy Kindergarten Classes are for puppies as early as nine weeks of age. A dog's critical socialization period is from birth to sixteen weeks. This is the time in your puppy's life when he develops lifelong coping skills and when he needs to be safely exposed to many new people, dogs and situations. Our quality puppy classes provide you with a safe environment for this social growth.

Our trained personnel will teach you how to help your furry family member learn new ways of handling stress. Contact Us for more information about how we can help. Many of our graduates from this class are able to go on to attend our basic obedience class.
My dog is very good with basic obedience. Are there other classes that would be fun and challenging?
